Gridbox Pro

Every Gridbox Pro release, with the date.

Gridbox Pro gets an update most weeks, and often more than once. The newest full installers are on the download page.

v2.1.232026-10-05 · installers

SVG and DXF cut files and foam sheet layers now come with the Commercial license, and the 1:1 paper template stays free for everyone. If you bought before October 6, your cut files stay unlocked. On Windows, double-clicking a project opens it.

v2.1.222026-10-05 · installers

Every Mac release now comes with a full installer, and macOS no longer calls a fresh download damaged. The first time you open it, allow it once under Privacy & Security. When the checkout can't open inside Gridbox Pro, it opens in your browser.

v2.1.212026-10-05

Foam sheets cut each post once, and kerf applies to every hole in a cut file. The kerf setting says to set it here or in LightBurn, not both.

v2.1.202026-10-05

Better cut files for a laser or CNC. DXF files are now complete, so stricter CAD programs open them, overlapping cutouts become one cut, nothing gets cut outside the bin, the test square sits below the foam, and kerf leaves your holes at true size.

v2.1.192026-10-05

Bought Gridbox Pro on the website? The unlock page after checkout can open the app and unlock it for you, with no key to paste. On Mac for now.

v2.1.182026-10-05

The new price is in the app: $130 one time at launch, until December 31, with a year of updates. Commercial licenses activate and show as Commercial in Settings. iCloud Drive shows up again as a place for your library.

v2.1.172026-10-04

Gridbox Pro has its new logo on the app icon, the top bar, About and the unlock screen.

v2.1.162026-10-02

The auto trace starts loading as soon as you open Shadowbox again.

v2.1.152026-10-02

The auto trace no longer loses part of a tool lying next to the scaler tile. The color plates have their own tab beside ShadowFit.

v2.1.142026-10-02

Saving works two ways. Naming the project or pressing Cmd+S saves a .gridboxpro file to your computer, and the save button keeps it as a bin in Saved bins.

v2.1.132026-10-02

SnapSplit draws its pins and magnets. Deleting several things at once, the Save button, the Color plates preview, All cards and the scoop list are back.

v2.1.122026-10-02

SnapSplit shows its pieces on the Export tab again. A shadowbox can hold several tools: after Use outline, choose Add another tool or Next tool in the same photo, and the auto trace skips the tools already cut. Dropping a photo onto the app works again.

v2.1.112026-10-02

The Shadowbox steps got a second pass. The scaler tile sits in the corner of the menu, the tool's height is part of 2. Scale, and the auto trace runs while you answer the height question. Auto trace traces a photo again, and every trace tool sits at the top left.

v2.1.102026-09-30

Shadowbox runs left to right in one Outline tab with numbered steps: 1. Photo, 2. Scale, 3. Trace and 4. Finish. The scaler tile is the default way to set the scale, the trace tools fold into the menu, Shift-click selects several points, Straighten sits beside rotation, and ShadowFit has its own tab.

v2.1.92026-09-30

A .gridboxpro file opens on the work itself, never on the Photo tab. Dropping a file on the app or opening it from Finder asks first when you have unsaved changes, the same as the Open button.

v2.1.82026-09-30

An Open button in the top bar opens .gridboxpro files (Cmd+O), and Find lists it under Top bar. Opening a file asks first when you have unsaved changes.

v2.1.72026-09-28

Most of the labels, hover tips and messages in the app were rewritten to read plainly. A hover tip says what its control does, and a message says what happened. Each thing now has one name everywhere: the tabs along the bottom are the menu, what you work on is a project, a hole for a tool is a cutout, a raised shape is an addition, and the shapes you save are presets. The Tray tab is now Shadowbox in Shadowbox mode and Bin in Import.

v2.1.62026-09-27

Edit cells now moves the view over so the bin sits clear of the cells window. Column width and Row depth read and take hundredths of a millimeter, so a caliper reading like 20.47 lands as typed. Settings has Colors: pick your own background, plate and bin from a color wheel or a hex code, and they stay across launches and projects, with Default to put any one back.

v2.1.52026-09-26

The build plate takes the exact shape of a Bambu textured PEI sheet: the back handle tab, the front strip with its windows, no printing on it. The room behind the view is studio gray, the sheet dark bronze, the bin preview white, and the no-build zone cherry red so it reads at a glance.

v2.1.42026-09-26

The build plate now looks like a real textured PEI sheet, with each printer's no-build zone drawn exactly where its maker's profile puts it (new A1 and H2S plates). Floor steps go straight into a cell: click a cell, Add a floor step, and it fills with a ramp. Ramp in no longer undoes ramp out. Caliper readings clear one at a time or all at once from the card. A click on empty space closes the cells window. The drawer base's eco switch is gone.

v2.1.32026-09-26

Floor steps now work on additions too, so a raised shape can be a step or a ramp, and a cutout can sit on top of an addition. Drag a stepper's number to slide it. Every section of the tray is its own card. Click empty space to deselect. The calipers keep their readings until you clear them. Import is marked beta. The dimensions line is gone, and the build plate is a gold textured slab.

v2.1.22026-09-26

Floor steps have their own tab in Bin Studio and Shadowbox, and any cutout can take one. Nothing in the tray scrolls any more: it grew to seven rows and its groups flow into columns. The Export tab is short again, with the foam and paper cut files behind one button that opens a window. Calipers replace the measure tool in the 3D view: hover to clamp, click to pin, K or M to toggle. Drag an edge of a selected shape to resize it.

v2.1.12026-09-26

Your first round of feedback on the shelf. New design is back (the plus beside the name). Printed cards show on the bin. After tracing, the app asks how tall the tool is. Reset columns and rows are under Cells. Column width and Row depth move one wall, like a drag. Selected cells light up on the bin. Rest rails go in the cells you select. Additions get Position and Rotation. The Export tab has a Design file row so you can send a design, and Open a file opens it in place. Reverse spin works at once. A hole at the crossing of merged solid cells on a resized grid is fixed.

v2.1.02026-09-26

The shelf: every control now lives in a tray under the 3D view, with a tab for each job. Numbers are plus and minus steppers you can hold or type into, fractions included. Walls drag on the bin itself, with a lock. One EXPORT button lists everything this design prints. Cmd+S saves, Shift+Cmd+S saves a copy. Units are remembered between launches. The fit test is now called ShadowFit.

v2.0.1622026-09-13 · installers

Fixes a lockout that could ask you to buy a license you already own: the app now re-checks your license online instead of showing a paywall. Also: merged-grid corners meet in a solid block, and the CAD view sits on a proper build plate. Your saved designs and presets are kept.

v2.0.1612026-09-13

Fixes a lockout that could ask you to buy a license you already own: the app now re-checks your license online instead of showing a paywall.

v2.0.1602026-09-13

Merged-grid corners now meet in a solid block instead of a hairline, and the CAD view sits on a proper build plate.

v2.0.1592026-08-29 · installers

New in this update: build the floor up under a tapered tool with the Additions tab (ramps, curves and rounded steps), plus reliability and security improvements. Your saved designs and presets are kept.

v2.0.1582026-08-25

Fixes from your session: floor steps now follow the axes you see (not the tool's original tilt), and Build up shapes placed inside a cutout now stand on the cutout floor.

v2.0.1572026-08-25

Floor steps: each ramp is now one Curve slider (cut in, straight, or bulge out, and how much), and the height is entered as step height with the tool thickness shown live.

v2.0.1562026-08-25

Shadowbox gets an Additions tab: floor steps with ramps (slope or scoop), rounded tops, any width, and height entry as tool thickness or step height.

v2.0.1552026-08-25

New: build the floor up, not just cut down. Risers in the Pockets tab (Build up), and a Floor section in Shadowbox Setup that levels a tapered tool from your caliper readings.

v2.0.1542026-08-23

Text sweep: instructions, warnings and notices across the app are now short labels and bullet points.

v2.0.1532026-08-21

My Designs fixes: the Delete button in a design's edit row works again (it was being swallowed by a focus quirk; it now asks to confirm, then deletes). And opening a design over unsaved work now asks first: save my work then open, open without saving, or never mind.

v2.0.1522026-08-20

The too-close photo notice now appears the moment your photo and object height are known, before you trace: it names the distance and suggests retaking from about twice as far with zoom, or pinning the exact spots that must fit. Proven on a real A/B retest: the same battery read an 11 percent height error at 39cm and 4.3 percent at one meter zoomed, with a sharper image too.

v2.0.1512026-08-20

The caliper check now warns when a photo was taken too close for the tool's height (it names the distance and suggests shooting from twice as far or pinning the exact spots that must fit), and the green scale check says plainly that it verified at your measured spans, nudging you to pin the tight spots before printing.

v2.0.1502026-08-20

Fix the scale is back when the two directions disagree. Type your caliper numbers in the check; if width and height are off by different amounts (a photo taken at a slight angle does that), one click corrects each direction to your calipers. Leave your outline hugging the photo; only the millimeters change.

v2.0.1492026-08-20

Simpler and predictable: your photo is never adjusted in any way. The scaler card sets the scale, the object height refines it, and your calipers verify the result. What you trace is exactly what lands in the cutout and the print.

v2.0.1482026-08-20

The straightened photo now comes out clean-cropped like a scanner page instead of showing warped edges. The ALIGN centerline from your calipers follows the live measurement so it truly halves the object, and the purple and blue guide lines are much easier to see.

v2.0.1472026-08-19

The photo is straightened once when the scale is set (scaler card or paper corners), so the picture you trace on is already true to real millimeters: what you trace is exactly what lands in the cutout and the print. No more shape shift at Use outline. Old projects keep working as before.

v2.0.1462026-08-19

Your pinned caliper spans now follow the cutout into the CAD view: turn on the measure tool with your cutout selected and the card lists each span as it lands on the print, extra room included; hover a row to see the purple span on the model. The card also says when sizes include your extra room, so the numbers always add up.

v2.0.1452026-08-19

Your photo stays exactly as you shot it: the automatic photo rotation from the last update is gone. The trace you draw is still exactly the cutout you get, and you square it up yourself with the Rotation slider or Straighten on the Setup tab.

v2.0.1442026-08-19

The cutout is now exactly the outline you drew: no hidden rotation at Use outline or Update cutout. Auto trace quietly levels a tilted photo at the start (like the lens correction), so the crosshairs, MIRROR and calipers line up with your tool; the Level photo button is gone because it is automatic now.

v2.0.1432026-08-19

Tracer round: your half-drawn trace now saves with the project, a Level photo button squares a tilted photo (outline, calipers and scale ride along), Straighten and auto-level now agree, auto trace lands with lightly rounded corners, MIRROR is the one symmetry tool, and the CAD measure lines clear when the tool turns off.

v2.0.1422026-08-19

The caliper check now says exactly which way things are off, in plain words: small means your outline is smaller than the real tool at that span, so grow that stretch. Big means the outline is larger, so pull it in. Every reading compares to your real tool, has a tooltip explaining it, and a key below the list spells it out.

v2.0.1412026-08-19

Calipers got smarter: a measurement you pinned across the object now re-measures itself when you move a line, so fix the outline and every reading and the caliper check stay true. Manual spans you placed by hand stay exactly where you put them. And ALIGN backed off: hold Option while dragging to place a point freely, and it switches itself off when you leave mirror mode.

v2.0.1402026-08-19

ALIGN now works with your calipers: pin a measurement across the object and a purple dashed line cuts that exact span in half. Drag a point onto it and it snaps dead center and turns blue. With nothing pinned, the blue lines mark the traced outline's middle, never the photo's.

v2.0.1392026-08-19

Tracing polish round two: the corner slider now spends most of its travel in the fine 0 to 3 mm range where you tune. Copy a corner's roundness and paste it onto other points. Long lines can be grabbed anywhere. New ALIGN guides mark the middle of your outline, and dragged points snap to them and to other points, turning blue when lined up. Mirror turns ALIGN on and shows an Apply mirror button, no more hidden Enter key.

v2.0.1382026-08-19

Tracing polish from your feedback: the corner slider now lives right in the top bar whenever a point is selected, goes from 0 to 25 mm in fine 0.1 steps, and has a type-in box for exact sizes. Select several points and round them all at once, then fine tune one at a time. Double-click a line to add a point. The extra LINE, CURVE and EDIT buttons are gone.

v2.0.1372026-08-19

Tracing gets simpler: every point is a corner or a smooth point. Tap Smooth and the outline flows through a point with no kink, straight sides ease into it. Round corner now works next to curves, remembers its size, and never changes your points. Sharp clears rounding and smoothing without touching your curves.

v2.0.1362026-08-19

Tracer fixes: the point and line menu now sits in a steady dock at the bottom of the photo instead of floating over your outline, with the corner slider in it. Rounding and Sharp no longer damage curves you bent by hand. Add point keeps a curve's exact shape.

v2.0.1352026-08-19

Fixes a bug where a symmetrized cutout could quietly break the rest of the app: color plates claimed the cutout was too small, the shadow test would not build, and the extra room you set was missing from the geometry. Opening an affected project now repairs it automatically, extra room included. Also by popular demand there is now exactly one Make symmetrical button and it lives in the outline editor; its measurement now reads through the 4-corner photo calibration too, so the editor and the finished cutout always agree.

v2.0.1342026-08-19

Make symmetrical now lives right in the outline editor, so you can fix a lopsided trace the moment you see it and keep editing without leaving the step. And the manual mirror grew handles: with MIRROR on, the mirror line is drawn across the photo with two orange diamond points you can drag one at a time to steer it, without dragging the half you selected along.

v2.0.1332026-08-18

One-click symmetry for traced objects: most tools are symmetrical, but photos and hand-tracing rarely are. The new Make symmetrical button on the Shadowbox Setup tab finds your outline's own centerline, tells you how far the two sides disagree, keeps the half that matches your trace best and rebuilds the other half as its exact mirror. Use it before Straighten and a tilted, lopsided trace becomes square and symmetric in two clicks.

v2.0.1322026-08-18

Tilted photo traces can now be fixed in one click: a new Straighten button in Shadowbox Setup squares the outline's longest edge to the tray. Rotation now goes full circle in both panels and takes decimals, so the last fraction of a degree is yours. The outline editor's footer now explains the mirror trick for making a traced object symmetrical: select the good side, press Enter, the other side rebuilds to match.

v2.0.1312026-08-16

The Custom Drawer Base learns to fix a misfit without a full reprint. If a printed base came out a little too small or too big, turn on Correction mode, say how far off it was and on which side, and the app rebuilds just the plates along that edge. The export then contains only the replacement plates, named by the same letters as your piece map, and the preview shows them in amber. Every plate you keep stays exactly as printed, because the Gridfinity grid never moves. Width off means one column reprints, depth off means one row, both off means the column and row sharing their corner plate.

v2.0.1302026-08-15

Fixes the Eco drawer base from 2.0.129, which could snap apart at the seams between cells. The rails are now solid fused beams, built the way the proven skeleton baseplates print. Eco bases also print faster now: the margin no longer carries extra height in magnet mode, and Eco exports come with ready print settings, thicker 0.28 layers and no brim, so the slicer stops undoing the savings. If you printed an Eco base on 2.0.129, export it again and reprint.

v2.0.1292026-08-15

The Custom Drawer Base learns two things. Every magnet pocket now has a small hole underneath, so a screwdriver tip pushed from below pops the magnet back out. And a new Eco toggle prints the base as thin skeleton walls instead of solid plastic, the way the fastest baseplates on MakerWorld print, while the margins and piece edges stay solid so the base still sits firm in the drawer. Bins click in exactly the same. With magnets on, the reference 22x16 drawer drops from 677g to 474g of plastic and prints much faster.

v2.0.1282026-08-13

Print-ready files open again in Bambu Studio and Orca. The print-ready 3MF and the AMS two-color label cards were arriving with no geometry in them; they now carry the model. Eco fill also stops treating a traced outline as far larger than it really is, so it hollows more of the bin on designs that have room.

v2.0.1272026-08-12

Update checks are steadier. If the update service is busy or a new version is part-way through being published, the app now waits a moment and tries again instead of giving up, and if it still cannot get an answer it says so plainly rather than telling you to check your internet connection.

v2.0.1262026-08-12

Cutouts and islands are now one list and one selection. Click either in the list or straight on the tray, and Setup shows just what applies to it. Edit outline works on whatever you picked, so there is no separate button for islands any more. An island can now stand taller than the cutout it sits in, right up to the tray's top face, and it can reach across other cutouts: no cutout can carve it away. Add an island opens the outline editor, so you can draw it with curves. The editor's backdrop is redrawn from your design, so deleted cutouts stop appearing behind it. Imports no longer bring in specks under 4mm across.

v2.0.1252026-08-11

Manage cutouts can act on several at once: shift-click rows to pick them, then Delete or Duplicate the whole lot from the bar above the list or the three-dots menu. One undo brings a bulk delete back. Walls inside a cutout can now be reshaped too: Edit shape opens the wall's own outline in the editor, where you move its points and save with Update wall, leaving the cutout around it alone.

v2.0.1242026-08-11

Cutouts can now leave material standing inside them. Import a tray with a divider or a wall in the middle of a cutout and Gridbox Pro keeps it instead of carving it away. Each wall is listed on the Setup tab: make it shorter, take it back to the top, remove it, or draw a new one straight in the 3D view. Extra room narrows a wall as it widens the cutout, and walls ride through the fit test, colour plates, cut files and saved presets.

v2.0.1232026-08-10

Fixes the Settings window. A styling name I added in 2.0.121 collided with one the Settings menu had used for a long time, which turned every section into a squeezed two-column layout: that is repaired on all four tabs, and the About tab no longer runs off the right edge. The export window now shows exactly what Sturdy, Standard and Eco set for a print-ready Bambu project: layer height, walls, infill, top and bottom layers, supports and brim, all three side by side, read straight from the settings that go into the file.

v2.0.1222026-08-10

One export button. The Export buttons that lived on the Color plates, SnapSplit, Shadow test, Label cards and Drawer base tabs are gone: everything is picked in the one EXPORT window at the top. Each of those tabs now tells you which row to tick there. Nothing was lost, every one of those pieces was always in that window. Cutting templates (SVG, DXF, paper) still live on the Cutouts tab beside their kerf and sheet settings, and an imported model still saves as 3MF or STL from its own card.

v2.0.1212026-08-10

Cutouts that belong together are now one set: import a tray with several pockets and they arrive grouped, so clicking one grabs the whole thing and dragging moves them together, while each cutout still edits on its own. Save the whole set as one preset and drop it into any design. Opening a model and Make it editable now show a progress window instead of a still screen. The Edit outline and Manage cutouts buttons are the same size and no longer crowd the cutout name, the Trace buttons line up, and the per-tab export buttons stop competing with the one EXPORT button up top.

v2.0.1202026-08-10

Importing a shadowbox now keeps the tool cutouts and builds a clean bin sized around them, instead of copying the other designer's box. The old tray's rim frame stays behind, so it can't steal your clicks or your edits anymore. Clicking the model now selects the shape under your cursor, even inside a bigger cutout. Saved cutouts can be placed into any design: the bin grows to fit them. And Manage cutouts gains 'Re-fit box to cutouts', which snugs the box around your shapes without deleting anything.

v2.0.1192026-08-09

Editing a recovered cutout no longer resizes the tray. The tray you measured keeps its measured size; only you change it. Rim frames found around deeper pockets are now named rim step and stay out of the way, and the Edit outline and Manage cutouts buttons wear the teal highlight so they read as the actions they are.

v2.0.1182026-08-09

Editing now follows your click. Select any recovered cutout and Back to outline, clearance and rounded edge all aim at that cutout, not the first one. Recovery lands on the main pocket instead of the rim frame, real pockets are numbered first, and frames are named rim step so the list reads as what it is.

v2.0.1172026-08-09

Recovered pockets now keep their true shapes. The outline is read below the rim flare, floors are measured instead of assumed, stacking lips are detected, and a knife slot comes back as a knife slot instead of an empty box. The import offer now tells you up front how well a file will recover, in plain words instead of a percent; files that are really baseplates or figurines say so. A file holding several models arrives as separate imports, and a recovered tray whose size matches whole Gridfinity cells offers to snap onto the grid.

v2.0.1162026-08-09

Make it editable now delivers the pockets. Real-world trays flare wider at the rim than their walls measure, and the recovery was silently dropping every pocket it had found; now the openings are trimmed to fit and the pockets arrive as editable cutouts, with the report saying what was trimmed. A photo left over from your previous design no longer blocks a recovered outline from opening in the editor.

v2.0.1152026-08-09

Import now means make it yours. Bring in an STL or 3MF and the app reads it and offers to rebuild it as a fully editable design, with a save-yours-first option. Stepped drawer organizers recover their real compartments now, not just the rim. Recovered outlines open in the outline editor over a drawn schematic, calipers and save-as-preset included. Cut and copy no longer undo themselves at export, and a dead-end refusal became a one-click fill offer.

v2.0.1142026-08-09

One EXPORT button. It opens a window with everything this design prints: check the pieces you want and the formats you want them in, 3MF and STL at once if you like. One pick saves a plain file; several pack one ZIP with a note saying what is inside. The buttons scattered across the panels now open the same window with their piece already checked.

v2.0.1132026-08-09

Import now has its own button next to Bin Studio, Shadowbox and Drawer Base. Imported files land on the tray beside your design instead of far off screen, and the view widens to show a new arrival. First piece of the bigger import overhaul: making any imported file fully editable comes next.

v2.0.1122026-08-09

Saved shadowbox projects reopen on the Shadowbox tab with the photo loaded and Trace ready to edit. Boxes built from saved presets get their photo back too. The New design button now looks like the reset it is.

v2.0.1112026-08-09

New ECO FILL toggle on Layout: solid areas print as a rib pattern instead of a brick, 20 to 40% lighter in any slicer, while pockets always keep full walls and floors. This completes the biggest update program in Gridbox Pro history.

v2.0.1102026-08-09

New: Cards as AMS two-color. Every label card exports as a Bambu project with the card body and its lettering already split onto two filaments, perfectly aligned. Pick your colors and print.

v2.0.1092026-08-09

New in the export chooser: Print-ready (Bambu). Your design saved as a Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer project with walls, infill, no brim and no supports already set. Pick Sturdy, Standard or Eco and just hit print.

v2.0.1082026-08-09

Preset packs: share your preset library as a single .gbpack file anyone can install with one click. Installing packs is free; importing the same pack twice never duplicates.

v2.0.1072026-08-09

Groundwork for the Business tier: the license machinery for per-seat business licensing is in place, dormant until the Business product goes on sale. Nothing changes for current users.

v2.0.1062026-08-09

The foam shop kit: export one cut file per stacked foam sheet, mirror outlines for back cutting, and pick your router bit to see instantly which corners it cannot cut sharp. The cut-files toolkit is complete.

v2.0.1052026-08-09

Free for everyone: a 1:1 paper template PDF of your cutouts. Print at 100%, lay your tools on it, and check the layout before cutting foam or printing. Big trays tile across pages with match-up crosses.

v2.0.1042026-08-09

Cut files grow a DXF option: the same depth-layered outlines as DXF 2000 with real millimeter units and true circles, ready for Fusion, Easel, VCarve and other CNC tools.

v2.0.1032026-08-09

New: Foam & paper templates on the Cutouts tab. Save your cutouts as an SVG cut file with one color layer per depth, a kerf setting, and a calibration square: cut kaizen foam on a laser or CNC, or vinyl on a Cricut.

v2.0.1022026-08-09

The big one: Make it editable turns any downloaded Gridfinity tray into a native, fully editable design, pockets and all, with an honest match report telling you exactly how close the copy came. Non-grid trays recover at their own size as flat trays.

v2.0.1012026-08-09

New on imported trays: Copy its pockets into the bin. Every pocket in a downloaded tray becomes an editable cutout in yours, with exact outlines and measured depths, ready to adjust or save as presets.

v2.0.1002026-08-09

Flat trays can now be any size: pick the Flat base and Size switches to Width and Depth in millimeters. Compartments, pockets, labels and everything else work the same at any size.

v2.0.992026-08-09

Make a lid for it: any imported container gets a drop-over lid fitted to its actual rim (handles cannot fool it), printed flat with no supports. The lid lands on the import shelf ready to save or print.

v2.0.982026-08-09

Two new remix buttons on imported models: Put a Gridfinity base under it turns any tray into a grid citizen, and Add magnet pockets retrofits the standard magnet pattern into bins that shipped without them, with honest detection that refuses lookalikes.

v2.0.972026-08-09

SnapSplit now works on imported models: Split for my printer cuts any downloaded model into plate-sized pieces with printed pins and magnet pairs at the cuts, plus a piece map. Connectors only go where the model is thick enough to hold them.

v2.0.962026-08-09

New on every imported model: Cut its shape into the bin. The model's exact outline becomes a pocket right where it sits, with cut depth, extra room and the rounded rim working like any traced cutout.

v2.0.952026-08-09

New Base choice on Size & Structure: keep the Gridfinity feet, or pick Flat for a plain-bottomed desk tray. The foot height becomes extra room inside, and everything else works the same.

v2.0.942026-08-09

Imported models can now be moved, rotated and rescaled on their card (with a one-click fix for inch-drawn files), saved back out as STL or 3MF, and they travel inside your project file. Imported parts and cutters now shape the exported model.

v2.0.932026-08-09

You can now import STL and 3MF files, including MakerWorld downloads: drop one on the window and it appears on the tray with an honest report of what is inside. Viewing and measuring ships today; cutting, joining and re-exporting arrive in the next updates.

v2.0.922026-08-09

Groundwork for file import: the geometry engine now refuses broken meshes with a clear message instead of silently producing nothing.

v2.0.912026-08-09

Panels are organized into clear sections, the Setup tab is condensed, and duplicate buttons are gone. The quick UX overhaul block is complete.

v2.0.902026-08-09

Every control now explains itself on hover, buttons follow one visual language, and Settings has an accurate keyboard shortcuts table grouped by where the keys work.

v2.0.892026-08-09

The EVERYTHING export now includes your label cards and says what it skips. Clearer export buttons: 3MF leads, STL and EVERYTHING alongside.

v2.0.882026-08-09

Clearer names everywhere: one word per concept (Cut depth, Extra room, Back/Front walls), About now lives in Settings, and a New design button beside Save and Open.

v2.0.872026-08-08 · installers

STL is now a button, not a setting. EXPORT 3MF and EXPORT STL sit side by side up top, every panel export has an STL twin, and Export everything asks which format you want. The Settings toggle is gone.

v2.0.862026-08-08

New: export STL as well as 3MF. Pick your format under Settings, Exporting; the export button follows your choice, and every model export honors it. Rest Rails is easier to drive: the tabs are now Bars and Notches, you can tick several notches (or Select all) and change their shape or size together, a How many slider sets up an even row, and every position reads as a distance from the bin walls.

v2.0.852026-08-03

New: Rest Rails. Raised bars across a bin with notches along the top, so tweezers, needle files and thin screwdrivers lie in the notches instead of sliding around loose. Find it in the Bin Studio rail after Scoops. Press Add rest rails and you get two bars on the thirds with a row of round notches, then adjust how many bars, which way they run, how thick and how tall, and the shape of each notch: round for a shaft, V for a range of sizes, flat for tweezers and blades. The same notches are cut into every bar, so a tool always lies level.

v2.0.842026-08-02

Opening a wall used to empty the bin: compartments, pockets, shelves and scoops all vanished from the exported model while the panels still showed them. They stay now. Undo can no longer reach back past the file you opened, which could write one project over another project's file. Deleting a shelf, a scoop, a preset or a folder now takes aim instead of happening on one stray click, and Cancel never deletes anything. SnapSplit pieces open on the plate instead of beside it. If your license cannot be checked, the app says so and offers to try again instead of asking you to buy it again, and Settings can now release this computer so you can use your key elsewhere. Windows updates are fixed at the root: each platform has its own update feed, so a Mac release can no longer disturb Windows.

v2.0.832026-08-01

SnapSplit now puts pins and magnets in material that actually exists, and tells you when there is nowhere to put one instead of promising sockets it never cuts. Saving something you already saved asks whether to update it or keep both. Your designs get folders. One button exports everything this design prints as a single ZIP. Fit test is now Shadow test, and its walls go down to 1mm and its base to 0.5mm.

v2.0.822026-08-01 · installers

Two fixes in this update change what comes out of the printer, so they are worth a minute of your time even if you skip the rest. ## Pockets no longer leave a stray sheet across the opening If you have ever seen a thin line or a couple of stray strings across a pocket in the preview, that was real geometry, and it was going into your 3MF. It was not just a display glitch. The cutter that opens a pocket was being built to stop exactly level with the surface it cuts through, which left the result to a coin flip inside the geometry engine. With the bin lip switched on there was no safe height: plain pockets picked up the fault between 20 and 67 mm tall, and rounded ones from 68 mm up, where it could seal the pocket over completely. The cutter now stops just above the surface, so there is no shared plane to get wrong. The pocket you asked for is the pocket you get, at every height. Cut depth and volume are unchanged, so a design that printed correctly before still prints identically. ## SnapSplit puts pins and magnets in plastic, not in thin air If you have printed split pieces and found the pins and magnets did not line up, or the sockets simply were not there, this is why. The connector planner had no idea what was solid. It looked at your cutouts and assumed everything else was plastic, so on an ordinary tray it would promise a set of pins and magnets and then cut nothing at all. The pieces came out identical whether connectors were switched on or off, while the panel and the printed piece map both told you to push pins into sockets that did not exist. On a divided tray it went the other way and drilled straight through a divider wall too thin to hold a magnet. It now works from the real shape of the tray. Connectors only go where solid material reaches across the cut on both sides, they sit inside the fill rather than halfway up an empty box, and a shallow cutout well above them no longer blocks the whole seam. If there is genuinely nowhere to put one, it says none instead of pretending. Worth knowing: if you exported split pieces on an earlier version, re-export them before you print again. ## Everything else - Fit test is now called Shadow test. - Its walls go down to 1 mm and its base to 0.5 mm, so the test piece costs even less to print. - Pick a pocket shape, then change your mind: clicking off the bin puts the tool down. It used to do nothing at all and leave the shape stuck to your cursor. - The crosshair can be jet black or white, your choice, and both the 3D view and the photo tracer use the same setting. Black for a pale tray, white for a dark photo. - Buttons that were real features but looked switched off, Save as preset, Trace another object, Manage cutouts, now look like the buttons they are. - Settings opens on Updates rather than Library. - Drawer Base opens showing the print pieces, since a drawer almost never fits a plate whole. - The split pieces sit in the middle of the plate instead of off to one side. - Pocket presets start standing up rather than lying flat, which is how most people want them. - Switching between Bin Studio and Shadowbox no longer rebuilds the model from scratch, so it stops stalling.

v2.0.802026-07-23

You can now open your Gridbox Pro files straight from your computer. Double-click a .gridboxpro file in Finder (or right-click, Open With, Gridbox Pro) and it opens with your design loaded. You can also drag a project file right onto the app window. Note: this takes effect once you have installed and opened this update, since that is when your Mac learns to associate the file type.

v2.0.792026-07-22

New heads-up before you export. If the border around your cutout is thin enough that the top could print rough, Gridbox Pro now tells you the exact width and how to fix it (make the tray a size bigger, trim the clearance, or turn on Ironing in your slicer). It only appears when the border is genuinely thin, and it never blocks your export. This came from a real client print: the file itself was a correct, sealed solid, but the frame around the tool had pinched to about 2mm, which is where a slicer starts leaving marks on the top.

v2.0.782026-07-22

Getting the trace to true size is easier. The scale fix now offers itself for small leftover differences too, not just large ones, so you can match the outline to your calipers before you add any clearance of your own. It also tells apart two different problems that used to look alike: a scale that is off by a percentage, versus an outline traced slightly wide by a fixed amount, and only offers to rescale when rescaling is actually the right answer. The height question is now worded for any object: it asks where your object is widest, all the way up, around the middle, or at the bottom.

v2.0.772026-07-22

The height question now handles round tools. If your object is round on top, like a hair dryer or heat gun, tick the box in the prompt and the size comes out right, because a round tool is widest across its middle rather than at its top. The cutout is still cut to the full height. Cropped photos are now detected and left alone rather than being adjusted from stale camera details, and any adjustment that looks unreasonably large is skipped entirely instead of guessed at.

v2.0.762026-07-22

Traced sizes are now right by themselves. After you pick a photo, Gridbox Pro asks one question: how tall is your object. Type it once and the app works out the rest, so the outline you trace on the photo comes out at the true size. That same number sets your cutout depth, so it replaces the old Tool depth box instead of adding another one. Tested against a real remote: a span that used to read 126.7mm now reads 123.9mm, matching the calipers. If a photo does not carry its camera details the app simply skips this and the caliper check still has you covered.

v2.0.752026-07-22

Clearer guidance on photo size accuracy. The Photo step now suggests backing up rather than shooting up close, since a tall tool photographs slightly bigger than it is and distance shrinks that effect. The caliper check now spells out that fixing the scale changes the millimeters, not your outline, so you never need to drag points inside the tool to make it fit. And once your outline closes, a short reminder shows how one caliper span makes the size exact.

v2.0.742026-07-22

The caliper scale fix is smarter: it no longer lets a tiny measurement throw off the correction, so the long dimension lands right instead of a few millimeters short (and it can correct each direction on its own when they truly differ). Calipers: hover and click once to pin the measurement you see; hold Option and click two spots for an angled span. Pinned calipers fade back so they do not clutter the object, and a dot marks exactly where each one measures. Clicking the Trace tab after a cutout now shows your editable points again. Fixed a zoom that snapped all the way out when a point was selected.

v2.0.732026-07-22

Caliper check can now fix the photo scale in one click (tall tools photographed up close read a few percent big; the check spots it and corrects everything). Caliper measurements save with your project. Add point is now the only way to add a point to a line, and it lands right where you clicked. Rotated cutouts draw their outline correctly, and tilted photos straighten themselves when you use the outline.

v2.0.722026-07-22

Drawer Base gets a Print pieces view: flip the toggle and the base pulls apart into its print pieces, each tinted and labelled to match its exported file, so you always know which print is which. The auto-trace progress bar now strolls through ten friendly updates instead of sprinting and stalling.

v2.0.712026-07-22

Reroute along edge now works no matter how far the points have wandered: select the bad stretch and it redraws between its good neighbors, straight onto the tool's real edge. Verified on the exact project file that showed the problem.

v2.0.702026-07-22

No more freeze: the auto trace runs on its own thread now, so the app stays smooth and the progress bar glides steadily from start to finish. Reroute along edge works with two or more selected points and pulls stray points back onto the tool's real edge. Click a rounded corner to re-adjust its roundness anytime, and the crosshair is now solid black.
