Getting started
How do I install Gridbox Pro?
On a Mac, open the download and drag Gridbox Pro into your Applications folder. On Windows, run the installer. The first time it opens, your computer asks you to confirm it once.More: Installing and updating
Do I need an account?
No. Gridbox Pro opens ready to design, and nothing asks you to sign in. Designing is free and your work keeps in Saved bins inside the app. Saving files out of the app, like the files for your printer, needs a license, $130 one time.More: Files and export
How do updates arrive?
Click Check for updates in Settings, and Gridbox Pro downloads the new version and installs it in place, so you only download it once. Every update is listed on the changelog.More: The changelog
Photos and tracing
How should I take the photo?
Take one photo per tool. Put the tool next to the scaler tile, or on a sheet of paper, and shoot from straight above in soft light. Stand back and zoom in, and Gridbox Pro tells you if you were too close.More: Making a shadowbox from a photo
How does Gridbox Pro know how big my tools are?
Print the free scaler tile once and put it in every photo, and Gridbox Pro finds it and sets the scale on its own. Without the tile, click the four corners of a sheet of paper or two points a known distance apart. The height of the tool fine-tunes it, and your calipers confirm it.More: Setting the scale
What if an outline is a little off?
Drag any point to fix it by hand. For an exact fit, pin a span with the calipers tool and type what your real calipers read, and Gridbox Pro shows how far off the outline is. With two or more readings, Fix the scale rescales the outline to match.More: Using calipers for an exact fit
How do tools come out of their cutouts?
Add finger holes where your fingers go, and the tool lifts out easily. Give a tapered tool a floor step or a ramp, and it sits level.More: Shaping the cutouts
Printing
How do I know it fits before the long print?
ShadowFit exports a thin test piece with the same cutouts, and it prints in under two hours. Drop each tool in, check any tight spot with your calipers, and then print the full shadowbox.More: Testing the fit with ShadowFit
What if my drawer is bigger than my printer?
Pick your printer once. SnapSplit cuts a bin or shadowbox bigger than its bed into pieces that join back together with printed pins or magnets, and a drawer base splits into tiles that fit on its own.More: SnapSplit
How do I make a base for my drawer?
In Drawer Base, enter the inside width and depth of your drawer in inches or millimeters, and Gridbox Pro builds a base that fills it, laid out on your printer's real bed.More: Making a drawer base
Should I export 3MF or STL?
Either works. A 3MF carries its millimeters and opens at the right size in every slicer, and STL is the classic format older tools and marketplaces ask for. Gridbox Pro can also save a print-ready Bambu Studio project.More: Files and export
Files and sharing
Can someone else open and change my project?
Yes. A .gridboxpro file carries the photo, the outline and every setting, and anyone can open it in the free app and change it for their own drawer. Saving files from it takes their own license.More: Files and export
How do I reuse a shape I made?
Save it as a preset, and it's there in every project after that. You can also save a whole bin into Saved bins and open it exactly the way you left it.More: Making your first bin
Can I make a template for foam?
Yes. Shadowbox exports a free full-size paper template of your outlines. The Commercial license adds SVG and DXF cut files for a laser or CNC, and foam sheet layers.
